Emma Stephenson

We are thrilled to announce that pianist Emma Stephenson is the 2016 recipient of the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award.

Emma is one of Sydney’s finest young jazz musicians. She is a founding member, composer and pianist in the Hieronymus Trio (with Nick Henderson – bass and Oli Nelson – drums). For her JRMA project Emma and the Hieronymus Trio are collaborating with one of Australia’s most outstanding vocalists, Gian Slater. Emma will be recording her JRMA project for ABC Jazz in December. Emma is a creative, imaginative and versatile pianist with an impeccable sense of groove. She is a PhD student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she was also awarded the 2012 Corinna Taylor Memorial Prize, and the 2015 and 2016 Jacek Chrowtowski Award for jazz pianists.
