20th Birthday Celebration!
The Jann Rutherford Memorial Award and the Sydney Improvised Music Association / Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival are delighted to announce the JRMA 20th Anniversary Celebration.
ABC Jazz has been a proud supporter of JRMA in years past. In 2025 ABC Jazz will host and record the JRMA 20th Anniversary Concert.
About the concert
The concert will feature:
The premiere of new work by 2025 JRMA recipient pianist, composer and improviser Lauren Tsamouras for her contemporary jazz duo, Another Green World with bassist Harry Birch.
JRMA alumnae band: Jess Green (co-leader, guitar), Hannah James (co-leader, bass), Ellen Kirkwood (trumpet), Alex Silver (trombone), Lauren Tsamouras (piano), Jodie Michael (drums). This ensemble of brilliant musicians has been formed especially for this celebration. The repertoire will include compositions by Jann Rutherford.
A conversation between Jess Green (program director SWIJF and Equity in Jazz Program Leader, SCM) and the founding director of JRMA, Sandy Evans
The concert will be recorded in front of a live invited audience. Entry is not open to the public due to the limited size of the studio. However, everyone can enjoy the concert in ABC Jazz broadcasts of the event.
